Keep It Legal
- Who you are.
- The title of the item you want to copy.
- The amount of the item you want to copy.
- Any charge you are making for it - usually this should only cover photocopying fees.
- When you want to use it.
- Why you want it.
Keep a copy of the response for your files giving you permission to use the "copyrighted works." Faculty, send a copy of the permission to your campus Copyright Officer.
There are several websites that have information on how to write a letter and templates on how to request permission to use copyrighted work, as well as websites that have templates you can use. They include:
