For Faculty: Course Packs
In Basic Books, Inc. v. Kinko's Graphics Corp., 1991, Basic Books sued Kinko's for selling course packs. Kinko's argued that the course packs were put together by professors for educational purposes and were therefore covered by Fair Use.
The court found against Kinko's. (For an explanation of how the court decided the four factors, see this page: http://copyright.lib.utexas.edu/mono1.html)
