Who Benefits?
Who benefits from copyright? In the short term, the authors. And we are all authors. When you create something, you probably will want to benefit from it. (What if you don't? Then there's something called the Creative Commons - we'll discuss it in the next section.)
But the long term beneficiaries of copyright are the public. We wouldn't have a vibrant, active culture if we didn't guarantee that creators would have the chance to benefit from what they create.
The public benefits in the long term, by giving creators an incentive to create and also collects the rewards for their work in the short term.
