Federal Government Documents

The Highline Library is a selective Federal Depository Library, which means the library receives a selection of publications from agencies within the United States Federal Government.  These publications, which may include books, CD-ROMs, maps, posters, pamphlets, and periodicals, contain information on careers, business opportunities, health, research, and many other subjects.

Documents available in the Highline Library

Most of our government documents are shelved on the north-east corner of the fourth floor, and are arranged by the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification number. The SuDoc classification number groups publications together by the agency that published the document.

Any search for government publications at Highline should probably begin with the Library Catalog, where you can search for government publications by title, author, subject, SuDoc number, or using keywords. The Catalog will tell you the location of the publications we own and whether it is on the shelve or checked out.

Documents available online over the Internet

Federal Digital System  is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government.  Use Federal Digital System to search or browse official, full-text information from the three branches of the Federal Government. Databases are updated based on their print equivalent and generally date back to 1994.
